Starship Scarwolf

Starship Scarwolf

Starship Scarwolf is a 2D top-down omnidirectional shooter. As I'm a fan of vector scan games, I aimed to create an expression using only wireframe rendering. However, I couldn't achieve this with just dots and lines, so I also used fill and circle drawing functions.

Starship Scarwolf is a old-school 2D top-down omnidirectional shooter (shoot 'em up).

Features:

  • This game has 2 game modes:

  • Campaign Mode allows you to clear stages with individual scenarios, supporting ship switching, customise equipment, and progress saving to the savedata file. When resuming, you can continue the game from the beginning of the saved stage.

  • Survival Mode is an arcade-like mode where you must continuously destroy asteroids to protect your allies. You can advance to the next Wave at fixed time intervals. While equipment changes are not possible, you can gradually enhance your ship by collecting items. Although progress cannot be saved in this mode, you can save data to add the money earned during gameplay to your Campaign mode credits.

  • Supports keyboard and XInput gamepad controls. DirectInput gamepads and mouse are not supported.

  • 3 difficulty levels and New Game+ mode (Campaign Mode only)

  • Detailed option settings (BGM volume can be changed, SFX can only be toggled on/off)

  • Data save function

  • Supports Steam Cloud & Steam Achievements

Controls:

Here are the main key operations used during gameplay. Note that key configurations can be changed except for directional controls (it is recommended to keep the Fire button at its default setting).

  • Left Analog Key/D-pad: Directional controls (2 types of settings are available, with 8-directional and left-right operations. Both types involve gradually turning in the direction of operation)

  • Fire1-4: Weapon usage (In Campaign Mode, weapons can be arbitrarily assigned to each ship. Multiple weapons can be assigned to a single button)

  • Boost: Ship speed acceleration

  • Brake: Ship speed deceleration

  • Stat: Toggle display of information panel on the right side of the screen

  • Radar: Toggle radar display in the bottom right (change magnification, hide, radar performance depends on equipment)

  • Pause: Enter pause screen during gameplay

The manual provides details on game settings & key configurations. The manual is available online, please refer to the link in the right pane.

Please Note:

As this game runs single-threaded, CPU performance is very important. If you have your Windows power plan set to "Power Saver", request that you change it to "Balanced" or "High Performance" mode. You can make this change during gameplay without issues.
